Overview of Disc Spring
The disc spring is named after its bowl shaped appearance, abbreviated as disc spring or diaphragm spring. It consists of four parameters: outer diameter (D), inner diameter (d), thickness (t), and height (Ho). It is a washer type spring with a conical cross-section made of metal sheet or forged billet.
Belleville spring was invented by the French J. Belleville in 1866. It was mainly used as a gasket at that time, and applied for a patent in the United States and France, so it is also called Belleville Spring. The research on disc springs in China mainly began in the 1970s, and enterprises began producing disc springs after the 1980s. With China's reform and opening up and the introduction of imported equipment, the use of disc springs has become increasingly widespread.
The principle and characteristics of disc springs
In general, the thickness of the disc remains constant, and the load is evenly distributed on the inner edge of the upper surface and the outer edge of the lower surface. Disc springs are usually made of spring steel and can withstand static loads, impact loads, or dynamic alternating loads, meeting strict requirements for fatigue life and loading losses.
Compared with other types of springs, disc springs have the following characteristics:
Short travel, small deformation, large load-bearing capacity
Compared with other types of springs, it has a higher space utilization rate
Different combinations of springs can obtain the required load characteristic curve
Various special materials and surface coating methods can be used
Easy maintenance and replacement, high economic safety
Long service life
Basic types of disc springs for selection
Disc springs are disc springs that bear axial loads and are divided into two types: unsupported and supported. The disc spring with a supporting surface has rounded edges, which greatly reduces the tension loss caused by the frictional force during the rebound of the disc spring during its operation. It can be used individually, or combined in pairs, stacked, or composite to form a disc spring assembly. Endure static or variable loads. Suitable for installation in small spaces and requiring heavy machinery or molds with high loads. At present, engineers from advanced countries such as Europe, America, and Japan have extensively applied disc springs in mechanical components. In addition to safety performance considerations, it also replaces the shortcomings of traditional coil springs such as limited space and load, and excessive compression stroke, and improves mechanical performance.
Types of disc springs
Generally divided into ordinary butterfly springs, butterfly springs with radial grooves, and trapezoidal cross-section butterfly springs. Due to the fact that the deformation and load value of a single butterfly spring often cannot meet the requirements. So it is generally used in combination.
Disc springs can be divided into anti loosening disc springs, high-temperature pre tensioning disc springs, high torque pre tensioning disc springs, and buffering tension disc springs according to their purposes:The main function of the anti loosening disc spring is to be applied to bolts with moderate loads but severe vibrations; It can effectively prevent phenomena such as bolt loosening and wire overturning; It can play a locking function, compensate for pre tightening force, and ensure long-lasting and reliable sealing; The anti loosening disc spring has good universality for both bolts and equipment.
High temperature pre tightening disc spring is suitable for pre tightening bolts of various flanges in high temperature environments; Various pipeline flanges, valves, and heat exchangers; Pre tighten the flange bolts of reactors, mixers, pumps, centrifuges, etc. High temperature pre tensioned disc springs are especially used at bolted connections with temperature differences exceeding 100 ℃.
High torque pre tensioned disc spring: This high torque pre tensioned disc spring is used in high load and high torque applications. Applied to pre tightening of valve and pipeline flange bolts; Pre tighten the foundation bolts and flanges of fans, pumps, and centrifuges; Pre tighten the flange bolts of heat exchangers, reactors, and mixers; Pre tightening of clutch, generator, pipeline support and hanger devices; Pre tightening of power bus bolts; Various other engineering applications of buffering devices, braking devices, high-voltage cable compensation devices, and other equipment.
Buffer stretch disc spring: This buffer stretch disc spring is widely used in large equipment in various industries, such as brakes, safety overload devices, mechanical starters, industrial furnaces, clutches, molds, etc.
